ALAN GOGOLL + SMALL TOWN ROMANCE

FRIDAY 19th MAY

Alan Gogoll

Alan Gogoll is a solo acoustic guitarist born in January 1988 in the picturesque seaside town of Hobart, Tasmania.

Recognised internationally as one of the finest solo acoustic guitarists, Alan has built his award winning reputation on intricate and uplifting musical performances and compositions using his original Bell Harmonics technique and signature guitar tunings which have seen him featured both nationally & internationally such as on ABC Classic FM, Guitar World and various other publications and pages.

Alan’s guitar journey began at an early age on a guitar hidden away in the attic, and more than twenty years on that journey is as exciting as ever having released over half a dozen studio albums to date with several new pieces in the works set for a mid 2017 release.

Small Town Romance

Like Country Music pied pipers Small town Romance collect fans wherever they go. Fronted by Jim Arneman and Flora Smith who share songwriting duties, Jim a lover of narrative and Flora a lover of melody together they bring about a perfect harmony.

Jim Arneman is the son of songstress Anne Kirkpatrick and grandson of Slim Dusty and Joy McKean, raised on the traditions of Australian country music and touring life. Flora Smith grew up in a household filled with Irish folk music and spent a period living in Texas where she studied tex-mex accordion and fell in love with the energy and spirit of classic country.

Small Town Romance formed in 2014 and the pair pooled their influences to write their debut record together emerging with an incredibly diverse collection of songs they describe as their ‘love letter to country music’.  The album shifts seamlessly from Australiana to Americana, from outlaw country to tex-mex, from cajun to irish folk, from country soul to rock n roll. What remains steadfast throughout is the voice of these two writers who have crafted an album that is more than the sum of its parts.

They will be appearing in a stripped back line up at Stone Pony but you can still expect to be marvelling at their songcraft one minute and resisting (or embracing) the urge to two step the next!
