Mother Courage and Her Children

by Bertolt Brecht, translated by Tony Kushner

Director Charles Sanders
Musical Director & Arranger Mario Spate

Brecht’s most infamously challenging play also proves to be his most entertaining, shocking and insightful.

Anna Fierling - known to all as Mother Courage - tails armies back and forth across Europe with her three children in tow, making a meagre living selling drinks and supplies to the soldiers and their commanders. She has only one priority: her children. But when food is scarce and the world is at war, ensuring that they can afford to eat might compromise their physical safety.

Nominally set during the 30 years war in the 1600’s, this new production brings Mother Courage smashing into the 21st century with an aggressively beautiful electronic score arranged by Mario Spate (The Killgirls, Mio), to remind us that, now as then, necessity trumps morality.
