Loss and Grief in SW Practice

This workshop addresses what social workers recognise - loss is a universal human experience. We all deal with losses of various kinds and of varying intensity throughout our lives. The emotional response to loss is grief.

We need to develop a language of grief, which emerges from our awareness of its impact on us, and helps us to see it in the context of the lives of the people with whom we work. The program will equally examine some of the ways in which the various fields of grief are acknowledged in the literature about grief practice.

The topic will cover grief in:

  • our own lives
  • the lives of our colleagues
  • the lives of the people with whom we work.
